World Expositions – A Manifesto of Modernization

A realm of brilliance – sparkling and dazzling, elegant and magnificent, breathtaking to behold. Carriages never cease at the gates… lanterns illuminating the night sky in the millions. 2025大阪萬國博覽會在4月開幕，臺灣的一般旅客以及專業參訪團已絡繹不絕；許多報導、觀察、評論、心得也陸續出現在各新聞及社群媒體中。

自1851年打著「世界各國」以及「工業產品」的倫敦萬國博覽會橫空出世以來，一個標榜全球化商品價值以及以對於現代化生活的想像開始被傳播。「現代化的生活」包含了兩種樣態的憧憬，一方面城市的模樣及生活成為現代性追求的樣貌，另一則是由無數發明家所提出的各種新奇物件，引發了一種對於未來擁有幸福的生活的美好想像。
